If you are a fan of the clean, minimalist design aesthetics of the Japanese but are looking for something more exclusive than Muji, you will find Atomi to be a real delight. A brand new concept studio housed on the 4th floor of the Mandarin Gallery, Atomi is a tribute to the simplicity and quality of Japanese artisanal craftsmanship.

Surprisingly well stocked for such a small space, many of the products featured in the store are award-winning designs that are brought in exclusively by Atomi. Passionate about tracking down the best of what is available, owners Mitsuko and Andrew source their merchandise from all over Japan.

In operation for less than a year, Atomi has already won over many with their finely curated collection of everyday household items, which are not so ordinary on second glance. For instance, a stylish linen label named Fog, which includes pieces for dining, cooking and bathing, is very popular with customers. Machine-washable for convenience, this ultra-absorbent, fast-drying fabric is perfect for our tropical weather. And in case you didn’t already know, these linen products are also being supplied to the Garibaldi Group of Restaurants.

Linen is also used in the shop’s small range of clothes. Featuring fuss-free separates like tunics, shirts and drawstring pants, these outfits are meant for relaxed moments and carefree weekends. Conceptualised in Japan and coming in classic prints and evergreen neutrals, you can be rest assured that there is no need to sacrifice style for comfort with these pieces.

Kaico, a collection of designer pots, pans and kettles, is another signature product line. Beautifully crafted from white enamel, with contrasting beech wood handles and maple knobs, these items are designed to stay spotless in heat and the large openings also make for easy cleaning. Make cooking more enjoyable with a set of these statement-making utensils.

Mouth-blown and handmade by master artisans in Tokyo since 1922, Thin Glass is a very special range of drinking glasses. Aesthetically pleasing with their gently streamlined shapes, these lightweight glasses may appear fragile but are in fact as durable as regular glasses. Housed in traditional Japanese wooden boxes, they will make an excellent house-warming gift.

In addition to retail, Atomi also provides a bespoke furniture service for its customers. Place an order for a handcrafted side table or chair (with customizable seat covers) by Maruni Wood Industry Inc to spruce up your living room with the unmistakable elegance of Japanese design.

On your way out with your purchases, you may be tempted to buy that lovely linen tote bag hanging off the door as well. And why not? Quality and good design will always be in style.
