Digital Nights 2010
In this digital age, enjoying art is no longer purely a one-way experience. From 17 to 26 September 2010, treat yourself to a visual feast at Digital Nights 2010, an interactive new media and digital arts festival. Featuring some of the best works from international and local artists from the digital arts field, this exciting event will span 10 nights. An adaptation of Nuit Blanche, a world-renowned arts and cultural showcase held annually in major European cities, night owls can look forward to a fun-filled time interacting with the artworks and artists.
Organised in conjunction with Nuit Blanche Paris, Digital Nights 2010 is the first of its kind in the region. Artworks will be set up at three locations and it is hardly surprising that one of them is Orchard Road. From 7.30 pm to 11 pm, the famed shopping strip will come alive with light and music. Part of Rev Up @ Orchard and Grand Prix Season Singapore (GPSS), Digital Nights 2010 @ Orchard presents works from artists such as Tom Carr, Bertrand Planes, Visual System, Charles Lim and Zulkifle Mahmod. Highlights include a nightly light show modelled after Nuit Blanche in Paris.
As one of the participating malls, Mandarin Gallery will be displaying a suspended aerial light sculpture. Measuring 26 by 26 ft, the luminous interactive and controllable art piece will dominate the building’s facade facing Orchard Road. Programmed with visual animations featuring lights and music, the installation is designed to give viewers an alternative perception of the space. Shopaholics will also be delighted to know that the participating malls will be rewarding shoppers with the opportunity to redeem limited edition GPSS gifts!
To complement Digital Nights @ Orchard, French art collective MU has created an iPhone-based sound walk and interactive game trail named Love Is In The Air. The free-to-download iPhone application tells the tale of a Parisian-styled love affair. Follow the trail to find clues in designated stores and stand to win vouchers and a trip for two to Paris.
With so much to see and do, there is absolutely no reason to give Digital Nights 2010 a miss!
